Dash's Accident

It was an early morning of racing practice for the Wonderbolts, since they had a big event coming up where they would perform for the Crystal Empire's newest addition, the newborn prince or princess. They had been training for weeks, some a little more than others. Rainbow Dash, having known Princess Cadence and Duke Shining Armor personally, and having performed at their wedding, she believed she was held to a higher standard than all the rest. Rainbow Dash practiced day in and day out, for weeks as soon as she knew about the event. She had grown exhausted and actually tuckered herself out to the point of being unable to see straight. Thought Dumbbell knew this, he warned her not to over exert herself, and wished she would take a day off. By now, Dumbbell and Dash had gotten close, gone out plenty of times, even slept together on occasions. Dash liked him, and he knew this. He was just afraid of admitting he may have done more than liked at this time. 

The day of practice, Dash had woken up early to go practice by herself and was unaware that one of the younger Wonderbolt trainees may have also been practicing. Like I said, she worked herself so hard that she could hardly see straight. By the time Dumbbell had gotten out of bed and gone to check on her, she couldn't even fly in a straight line. The next thing he knew, she collided with the trainee and was knocked out cold. The blue pegasus mare fell down through the sky, though the stallion raced to catch her, tears forming in his eyes, he was too late. Dash collided with the ground, far past Cloudsdale and was laying still. Dumbbell couldn't even find a pulse, and immediately rushed her to the nearest hospital, which so happened to be in Ponyville. 

Rainbow Dash was bandaged, examined, and looked over for hours before they finally told the stallion how she was. He was a nervous wreck, pacing back and forth in the hallway. Finally, a unicorn stallion (Doctor Horse) approaches the stallion and tells him the extent of the damage. Dash had received a broken left wing, three broken ribs, two sprained hooves, and was still unconscious from hitting her head so hard. Doctor Horse also told Dumbbell some hard news that no pony was expecting. Dash was pregnant at the time of the accident, but had lost the foal due to her injuries. Dumbbell was the only stallion Dash had ever slept with, and he took this very hard. The few nights after receiving the news, he went out and started drinking until he was kicked out of each bar for falling asleep or hassling other ponies. A week passed before Dash finally woke up to see her friends all surrounding her at the hospital, and Dumbbell's head resting on her bed, waiting for her to wake up. 

They all had agreed not to tell Dash about her lost foal, since not even she knew she was pregnant before hand. However, her wing was injured to the point that she was deemed unfit to participate with the Wonderbolts. Therefore, Spitfire decided to give her an honorable discharge with her 'Golden Wings' - a very special award for those who are injured in the line of duty. 

Rainbow Dash took it pretty hard, and for some time was even unable to fly. After about a month of recovery and resting, Dash was finally able to move her wing, though she would never be able to race or perform again. She couldn't fly too well, and could barely keep up with Fluttershy. Doing a Rainboom would be physically impossible for her.

This event occurred about a year after "Celestial Advice" and a couple more years have passed since this event. Dash now trains young fillies while living with her stallion-friend Dumbbell. To this day she had no recollection that she was even pregnant, and Dumbbell would prefer to keep it that way.
